Dear Little One





Dear Little One,

It's here. The day we have been praying for since we met you. Tomorrow your parents arrive and you will begin your new life with them. We've talked about what will happen and I feel like you are as prepared as you can be, but you really don't know what it will be like.

We will miss you so much here. It's so hard to put you to bed knowing this will be one of the last times I get to be the one who does this. I cherish this so much and will hold you a little longer tonight. Okay, I'll hold you until you fall asleep because I know so soon I'll hug you for the last time for who knows how long.

I'm so excited for you, really. Ecstatic. I know your parents love you dearly. I know your siblings are so eager to get you home. I know you have a room and so many new toys and clothes waiting for you. I know this is God's redemption plan for your life. I know this family is the perfect one for you.

These next few days will be hard. We will probably all shed some tears. You and the other kids will probably act out because all of your worlds are changing. You are about to feel things bigger than you ever knew possible. Most things you won't understand. I don't even understand everything I feel. Just like I've been here to hold you through scary moments, I know your mom and dad will hold you. I know they don't feel like your people yet, but trust me; they are so excited to be your people. You will learn to trust them just like you trust me. You will learn how much they already love you. 

I pray that you will fall in love with each other more and more each day. I pray you will feel so much a part of your family as soon as you are in their arms. I pray your house feels like home as soon as you arrive.

I will cry. I will be sad to hug you one last time. 

But also, my heart will be bursting with joy for you.

You have a family now.

One you do not have to say goodbye to.
One who will be with you forever.
One who will cherish you.
One who will be in your corner the rest of your life.
One who is so excited for you to finally be home with them.

Little one, please know how dearly love you are. Know you will ALWAYS have a very special place in my heart. Know your parents love you so very much.

You are loved. You are special. You are worthy. You are worth it all.

A little bit of a lot --Haiti thoughts, A Water Truck Run, How lucky I am, and Encouragement

When people ask “How is Haiti?” I look at them and reply, “It’s incredible.” Not because it’s so much fun, not because it’s so nice here, not because I feel safe to do anything I want to, not because of any normal reasons. It’s incredible because it has stolen my heart. I have fallen in love with the beautiful children, I’ve fallen in love with the simplicity of life, I’ve fallen in love with the people I get to interact with. The country of Haiti is not incredible in and of itself, it’s the people that live here that make the country incredible. Haiti is full of poverty that no human should ever have to endure.
